Process Modeling for the Study of Non-State Political Violence

چکیده
Terrorism studies have and continue to face conceptual and analytic challenges that stem from the assumption that terrorism can be understood outside of its social and political context, as essentially a ‘state’ of being and/or set of personal qualities specific to the terrorist (Sageman, 2004; Taylor & Horgan, 2006). An under-explored alternative to this view is to see involvement in terrorism, at least in psychological terms, as a process rather than a state. One consequence of this is that we shift the focus away from individuals and their presumed psychological or moral qualities to an examination of process variables. These, by their nature, are more susceptible to change and thus form the basis of developing interventions. Interpreting these variables, such as changes in operational context or relationships between temporal events and individuals, requires tools capable of capturing time-sensitive semantic content. To date, there are few process-oriented tools and fewer analyses of terrorism data using these tools. In this paper, we present such a tool and offer an initial application for expanding and formalizing computationally our understanding of terrorism.

Estimating Stock Price in Energy Market Including Oil, Gas, and Coal: The Comparison of Linear and Non-Linear Two-State Markov Regime Switching Models
A common method to study the dynamic behavior of macroeconomic variables is using linear time series models; however, they are unable to explain nonlinear behavior of the series. Given the dependency between stock market and derivatives, the behavior of the underlying asset price can be modeled using Markov switching process properties and the economic regime significance. In this paper, a two-...
متن کاملPsychopathology Dimensions of Females Experiencing Family Violence and a Perspective to Their Habilitation
Objectives: Violence is a widespread problem that occurs all over the word among all ages, genders, races, educational level and socio- economic groups. The aim of this study was to investigate modeling of different processes that could account for the link between experiencing spouse abuse in women and psychology, psychopathology, social and demographic factors. Methods: Data were gathere...
متن کاملProduction Constraints Modelling: A Tactical Review Approach
A constraint is a limitation or a restriction that poses a threat to the performance and efficiency of a system. This paper presented a tactical review approach to production constraints modeling. It discussed the theory of constraints (TOC) as a thinking process and continuous improvement strategy to curtail constraints in other to constantly increase the performance and efficiency of a system...
متن کاملCausal modeling of domestic violence based on marital intimacy, inhibition and marital conflict
The present study was conducted with the aim of modeling the causality of domestic violence based on marital intimacy, restraint, and marital conflict. The method of descriptive correlational research was structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this research includes all the couples involved in domestic violence in Shiraz city in the years 2020 to 2021, who have experienced ...
متن کاملTrip pattern of low-density residential area in semi urban industrial cluster: predictive modeling
This research elucidates the trip pattern of the low-density residential zone in a semi-urban industrial cluster of southwestern Nigeria. These sets of dwellers are often times neglected in the transportation planning process with the view that it is not a residential zone. Domiciliary information gathering procedure was employed in the analysis with 0.82 return rates. It was backed up with the...
